Offshore, nearshore, onshore: how to choose your web outsourcing model

Offshore, nearshore, onshore: three ways to outsource website production. The criteria that really matter, and those that matter much less.

Offshore, nearshore, onshore: how to choose your web outsourcing model

Choose offshore for well-scoped, recurring projects where production cost is decisive, nearshore when day-to-day coordination matters most, and onshore for highly sensitive or fast-changing projects. No model is better in the absolute: the right one is the one that fits how you work.

The criteria that really matter

  • Total cost, not the rate. A low rate that requires ten hours of rework per site costs more than a fair rate delivered right the first time.
  • Brief quality. The more precise it is, the less distance matters. A vague brief hurts every model, offshore first.
  • The rhythm of your projects. Five sites a month on similar templates suit offshore better than a single, fast-changing site.
  • The client relationship. In white label work, your client must never see the provider. Check that the provider commits to never contacting them.
  • Code handover. A site must be takeable by another developer: standard code, documentation, access handed over on delivery.

The risks to frame before signing

Bad outsourcing experiences almost always come from the same causes, and they can be prevented.

  1. A poorly defined scope. Ask for an itemised quote, line by line, not a global price.
  2. No intermediate validation. Split the work into stages: mock-up, integration, review. Each stage is validated before the next.
  3. A missing single communication channel. Choose one contact and one tracking tool from the start.
  4. Unspecified rights. Ownership of code, visuals and content: put it in writing.

How we work

Webi Studio builds websites for agencies and companies that outsource: website creation from €490, dedicated experts on a time-and-materials basis from €25 an hour, and white label production. The quote is itemised and sent within 24 hours. The rates are published, and our guide to outsourcing web production explains how it works step by step.

How to choose in practice

  1. List your projects for the next twelve months and how repetitive they are.
  2. Estimate the time you can devote to coordination each week.
  3. Ask for a small test project before entrusting a volume.
  4. Compare the total cost on that test, rework included.

To frame a first trial, tell us about your project: we reply with an itemised quote, no commitment.

Frequently asked questions

Offshore or nearshore: which one costs less?

Offshore is usually the most economical, because the provider is further away and its production costs are lower. Nearshore gets closer to your time zone and working culture, at a higher rate. Always compare the total cost, coordination and rework hours included.

Can you outsource a website without losing quality control?

Yes, provided you set three safeguards: a written, validated brief, a staged review with your feedback recorded, and access to the test environment throughout production.

Who owns the code and the content?

You do, on delivery and payment. Have it stated in the quote or contract, along with the handover of access, source files and documentation.

Do you need a confidentiality agreement?

For white label work, yes: a confidentiality agreement protects your clients and your relationship with them. The provider must never contact them directly.
